Property Description

Located in the heart of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, adjacent to world famous Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Casa Santa Ana is a beautiful new Bed and Breakfast residence built specifically for birders and other wildlife enthusiasts. CSA is nestled between the refuge and Military Highway (Route 281, less than 200 yards north of the refuge and within an easy 10 minute walk of refuge headquarters. Owners Judy and John McClung operate CSA as a "home stay" residence, meaning guests fix their meals (breakfast ingredients are provided and maintain their rooms in accordance with their personal schedules and tastes. Perhaps most significant, it is a quiet, private, secure retreat where guests can enjoy the unique environment and wildlife of the lower valley while feeling very comfortably at home. Surrounded by farm fields and woodlands, CSA sits on more than seven acres that currently are being revegitated with plant species native to Santa Ana's Tamaulipan Scrub Thorn habitat, and selected because of their feed and cover value to birds and other animals. A short walk up Tower Road leads to the north dyke of the Refuge, and a few minutes west on the dyke leads in turn to the refuge headquarters but don't rush, as many an uncommon bird and butterfly has been spotted along the dyke over the years.
